What is pet boarding like?
Boarding your pet is like a pet vacation; it typically involves leaving them in the care of a kennel, a pet hotel, or a professional pet sitter while you are away. The experience can vary depending on the facility or individual you choose, but generally, you can expect the following:
-
First, you will need to provide the facility with information about your pet, including their name, breed, age, and any medical conditions or special needs they have. You will also need to provide contact information for yourself and an emergency contact, as well as proof of vaccinations.
-
Next, you will need to drop off your pet. This can be an emotional experience, especially if it’s the first time you’re leaving your pet behind. But most facilities have friendly staff who will help you feel more comfortable, and they’ll make the process smooth and easy for your pet.
-
Once your pet is checked in, they will be placed in a comfortable kennel or cage with a bed, fresh water, and sometimes food (don’t forget to send tasty treats!). They will be given time to adjust to their new surroundings and will be given plenty of attention and care by the staff.
Depending on the facility, your pet will have the opportunity to spend time outside of their kennel. This can include going for walks, playing in an outdoor play area, or receiving one-on-one attention from staff members.
If your pet has any special needs, such as medication, the staff will make sure that they receive it as directed. They will also be closely monitored to ensure that they are happy and healthy throughout their stay.
When it’s time for you to pick up your pet, the staff will provide you with a report of their stay. They will let you know how your pet did, what they ate, if they had any problems or concerns, and will answer any questions you might have.
Boarding is a great option. Here’s why.
While it’s fun having your pet with you on vacation, boarding your pet is a smart move, for a few reasons:
-
Safety: Traveling with a pet can be risky, especially if they are prone to anxiety or motion sickness. Boarding your pet in a professional facility ensures that they will be in a safe and secure environment, and that staff will be available to monitor their well-being.
-
Comfort: You may not know it, but traveling can be stressful not just for you, but for your pet too. Boarding facilities provide a comfortable and familiar environment for your pet, with beds, fresh water, and — most importantly — food.
-
Convenience: Boarding facilities can provide services such as grooming, training, and playtime, which can be beneficial for your pet and save you time and energy.
